Presentation

Irene has been covering the technology beat since 1999. She began her career reporting on technology developments in Asia at CNET, which has since been bought over by CBS Interactive. She joined The Straits Times in 2007 as a technology reporter. She covers a wide range of technology issues from data privacy and cyber security to telcos, e-payments and smart cities. Irene won the Singapore Press Holdings English/Malay/Tamil Media group Story of the Year award for her story “Public servants’ computers to have no Net access” in The Straits Times on June 8, 2016. She has also developed many page one exclusives such as last year's story on the appointment of a company to bring unified e-payment systems to all 12,000 stalls at hawker centres, canteens and coffeeshops and another story last year on the trial of street lamps equipped with high-tech sensors.
