Chelsea Ong is a 2019 Research Associate under the Shirin Fozdar Programme at Lien Centre for Social Innovation. She is a rising senior at Yale-NUS College who majors in anthropology. Brought up by disabled parents, she cares for the rights of the marginalized and volunteers to help at-risk youths, refugees and persons with disabilities. She is a trained facilitator and a peer-counselor, and currently holds the portfolio of vice-president at the Yale-NUS Socio-emotional Leadership Club- a club that she has pioneered with her peers to help reduce youth suicide rates and to empower youths in gaining clarity and conviction over their worth. To date, she has facilitated more than 20 trainings with PSC scholars, at-risk youths, and college students, and has designed and run some workshops for LCSI’s Social Impact Festival. Over the years, she has also given talks to bridge the divide between the hearing and non-hearing communities and is currently volunteering as a Sign Language Interpreter for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Federation Singapore.
