Description
Marina Owsjannikowa is a journalist and producer for Russia's first state-owned television channel Pervi Kanal. In the third week of Russia's invasion of Ukraine on March 14, 2022, she made an act of resistance, seen by millions of persons around the world, holding up a sign on the evening news Vremia that read "No to war, don't believe the propaganda, you are being lied. Russians are against the war" to show her opposition to the war in Ukraine.
She was arrested, fined for an "administrative offense" and released, pending trial for failure to comply with the recent law on "spreading false information about the use of Russian armed forces," which could result in up to fifteen years in prison.
