Adviser

Description

Helen Gwanfogbe has a strong passion for community service, working with women and community organizations. She has taken part in various international leadership exchange programs, notably by the British Council (Pan African Leadership Program), the US Embassy, and Vital Voices, which have contributed enormously to her leadership capacity in carrying out multiple advocacy programs in the defense of women’s rights and children in rural communities. These capacities enabled her, as President of Nkumu Fed-Fed from 1999 to 2009, to play a lead role in the combat against Child Trafficking in Cameroon. In December 2005, by advocating for and influencing Parliamentarians and Government Officials, a new law on Child Trafficking and Slavery was adopted, which later extended to include Trafficking in Persons. This law has had a significant impact on over 20 million citizens of Cameroon. Helen’s organization is currently involved with sensitization, psychological and trauma counseling, skills training and economic empowerment for both women and youths affected by the ongoing war crisis in Cameroon as well as survivors of Trafficking in Persons. Currently she is an adviser in the organization and the chairperson of the Human Rights Program Area.
