51 Pegasi b Postdoctoral Fellow
Description
Malena Rice is a Heising-Simons 51 Pegasi b Postdoctoral Fellow at the MIT Kavli Institute for Astrophysics and Space Research. She is also an incoming Assistant Professor in the Yale University Astronomy Department, where she will begin in July 2023 as one of the youngest female STEM faculty members ever hired by an Ivy League university. Her research spans topics ranging from exoplanet orbital architectures to stellar spectroscopy and the search for Planet Nine in the outer solar system, all with the goal of unveiling how planetary systems form and evolve. By developing a firm understanding of the breadth and properties of extrasolar worlds, her work builds toward a deeper appreciation for our own Earth: a true oasis among a rich diversity of possible outcomes. She received her PhD in Astronomy from Yale University in Spring 2022, and she was named a 2021 PEO Scholar and a member of the Forbes 30 Under 30 Class of 2023.
