Description

Hilda is fast becoming one of Uganda’s most prominent youth climate and environmental rights activists. Her work combines local and grassroots environmental work with advocacy and campaigning on the world’s biggest stages. She founded Uganda's Fridays for Future movement and has spoken at major global convenings around the world to advocate for climate justice including COP27 and UNGA Transforming Education Summit and COP40 in Buenos Aires. At home, she leads a nationwide team of environmental justice activists who conduct training and advocacy and lead regular clean up operations around Lake Victoria as well as collaborations with schools and local communities to empower young people to fight against environmental degradation and climate change. Hilda’s Future Rising project is a documentary that chronicles her own journey as a climate activist and illuminates the work of Fridays For Future Uganda as the group protests against industrial contamination and plastic dumping in and around Lake Victoria. The film will follow the Fridays for Future team as they organize a clean up and work with local communities to teach sustainable solutions to preserve the Lake Victoria ecosystem
