Mitali Banerjee uses AI tools such as convolutional neural nets to measure the novelty of creative output such as paintings. She uses such measures to study the relationship between innovator's social networks, fame and novelty. She also studies the relationship between AI and expert evaluations with the goal of highlighting organizational principles to combine machine and human evaluations to address inequalities in labor markets. She is a professor in the Strategy group at HEC Paris. Her Ph.D is in Management from Columbia Business School. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Rochester with a double major in Mathematics (BS) and Economics (BA).
