Mrs. Soham El Wardini was born in Latmingué, in the Kaolack region. She is graduating in English, after which she will hold a teaching position. In 1999, she became an activist within the Alliance des Forces du Progrès (AFP). In 2009, she was Deputy Mayor of Dakar in charge of culture. In 2014, she became 1st Deputy. From March 2017, following the departure of Mr Khalifa Ababacar Sall, Soham El Wardini became Acting Mayor. On 29 September 2018, she was elected Mayor of the City of Dakar in the first round of election with 64 votes out of 90 votes cast. At the age of 65, Mrs. Soham El Wardini became the first female Mayor of the Senegalese capital.
