Presentation

Jess is an excitable scientist with an enthusiasm for equality. Her research considers organic light emitting diodes that contain chiral nanostructures and emit circularly polarised light. She has been involved in several projects to improve gender inclusion in science, as well as encouraging more young people to study science and engineering. She is a keen Wikipedian, and spends her free time writing the biographies of women, LGBTQ+ and POC scientists for the encyclopaedia – creating one every day since the start of 2018. In 2018 Jess was selected as one of Nature's 10 people who mattered, was recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours and won the Institute of Physics Daphne Jackson Medal.
