The World Bank estimate that businesses owned by women make up 35% of the formal economy, but receive only 1% of public and private spend – a clear obstacle to expanding women’s entrepreneurship and empowerment. What does more-inclusive economic empowerment look like? What role do gender-responsive public and corporate procurement and access to markets play in supporting women entrepreneurs? What infrastructure and support – legislation and policy, financial safety nets, new ways of working – is needed to achieve economic empowerment for all?
