Marina Pisklakova-Parker started the first helpline for battered women in Russia and for the past over 25 years she have been actively working on building a movement against gender based violence, conducting trainings for NGOs, general public and different professional groups, raising awareness among the public and professional groups about different forms of violence against women, Ms. Pisklakova-Parker holds PH.D. in Sociology, she is an author and co-author of number of articles and books regarding gender based violence including “Marriages in Russia” published in the US and Russia (1999), “Between scream and silence” (2000), “State of Fatherhood in Russia” (2016) and many others.
Ms. Pisklakova-Parker was honored by Human Rights Watch, she is featured in the book by Kerry Kennedy Cuomo “Speak Truth to Power” representing Russia (http://rfkcenter.org/speak-truth-to-power). She was honored at the Kennedy Center together with 50 human rights defenders as a part of the book release events in September 2000. Ms. Pisklakova-Parker was honored by Vital Voices Global Partnership for her work on trafficking in human beings.
The story of Marina’s life and work as one of seven women-leaders working to advance women’s and human rights is featured in the documentary play SEVEN (https://seventheplay.com/the-story-of-seven/) In 2020 Ms. Pisklakova-Parker is listed by The Moscow Times among women to watch in 2021.
Currently Ms. Pisklakova-Parker is a Senior Director for GBV Advocacy at Vital Voices Global Partnership.
