Description
Progress toward the SDG targets is falling short for adolescent girls. While maternal mortality has declined by one-third since 2000, progress has stalled, and maternal conditions remain a leading cause of death for girls aged 15 to 19. Globally, adolescent girls are far more likely than adolescent boys to be without education, employment, or training. Violence and child marriage continue to be dark realities for millions of girls worldwide.
Advancing adolescent girls’ leadership, agency and power is a special focus of UNICEF’s gender equality agenda.
